Electrical and Lighting Safety SAFETY WARNING:
Insectopia recommend that electrical equipment and lamps are always checked thoroughly before each use, to ensure they have not been damaged in storage or during transit to your trapping venue. Faulty or damaged equipment should never be used. It should be disposed of safely, utilising local recycling facilities where available
Great care must always taken when installing and using electrics. Insectopia will not be held responsible for any injury, damage or consequential loss caused by but not limited to:
a) failure to check equipment is undamaged before each use (and the subsequent use of faulty or damaged electrics or lamps) b) the fitting and/ or operation of electrics contrary to installation instructions and guidelines c) failure to take any other appropriate and reasonable safety measures.
LIGHTING SAFETY WARNING:
MBT lamps must not be operated a) uncovered in rain, or b) with a shield in conditions of wind-blown slanting rain. Raindrops are likely to cause the bulb to crack or explode, with risk of personal injury. In inclement conditions Insectopia therefore recommend the use of UV lighting sources. Insectopia also recommend the use of UV lighting rather than MBT lighting for attended trapping and public events. (Please note: we no longer supply MBT lamps.)
Whilst UV lamps (actinic circline, blacklight, blacklight blue) run cool and should not be damaged by rain, it is important to ensure that all electrical components are equipped in such conditions to prevent personal electric shock. In addition where possible, a rainshield should be used (or other action taken) to protect lamps from rain which will greatly extend their life.
Never look directly into UV lights. Use of UV protective glasses is recommended.
